NikwaxTx.Direct Spray On Waterproofer 500ml

It Works! Reproofed my vintage Burberry trench (51% cotton and 49% Polyester).I honestly didn't know what I was getting myself into when I bought this. I took a chance. I had purchased a vintage Burberry trench on eBay that has lost of course its waterproofing due to its age 20+ years. Once I dry cleaned the trench, I bought this and sprayed the trench generously. I would say I must have used 3/4 of the 500ml bottle wanting to make sure I got all areas. Left the trench to air dry for 4 hours and did the water test. Beading is back which tells me it worked. I ordered again another one for touch-up in a year or so.

Within a few months, following 2 washes, I have used about 60-70% of this 500ml bottle on 1 jacket alone, which seemed to be severely lacking DWR. The Craghopper jacket uses Aquadry waterproofing tech. But water had been soaking the jacket surface and made me feel weighed down and humid.Even though I applied this twice, liberally, within the space of a few months, I am not impressed. In both cases, immediately following application, there was not a decent standard of DWR in my opinion. See the photo. This was the first contact my jacket had with moisture, in very light rain that was almost mist. Whilst it is beading up a little, to me, it shows that it is not going to be effective enough as already the water is soaking into the fabric, and this is first contact with water! General use following my previous application seemed to be lacklustre, and this appears to be more of the same second time around.I have followed the instructions with great care. I bought this to revive my Rab eVent (similar to Gore-tex) jacket, which has started to let in water around the shoulders. The jacket has only had light use, no rucksack wear on the shoulders, just occasional walks near home and is about 7-8 yrs old. I followed the instructions and awaited a wet day to test it out. It beaded as expected on the first couple of occasions worn but then failed to really have any effect, leaving me to suspect that the jacket has simply reach the end of its useful life. Disappointing, given the cost of these jackets. As for the waterproofing agent, a bit of a waste of money.

I live and work in some of the most inclement areas of Scotland, from the Atlantic coast of the Outer Hebrides, to the North Sea off of Shetland. This stuff keeps my waterproofing topped up whenever I need it. It is maybe not quite as user friendly in this format as the wash in stuff. I have tried many a waterproofing product; and this seems, to me, to maintain the effectiveness of the waterproofing better than the others. Good product and results = 5 stars

i found that I had a leak in the hood of my waterproof jacket which i use every day rather than go through the procedure of washing and reproofing the whole jacket i purchased the spray which saved we time and energy and worked just as it should. This evening when the weather turned wet the hood was tested again in the rain and as usual no water got into the jacket.
