Farrrrrr superior to classic fluorescent bulbs. Money-saver too!
In the interests of driving down the electric bill and doing a part in the save-the-earth push, I've made efforts to convert all old-style incandescents to LED bulbs at my home. With that task complete, a fluorescent tube bulb that burned out led me to discover this product. I had seen LED tube bulbs at home improvement stores so I knew they could work in existing fixtures but those tended to have high price premiums at those stores, especially relative to the classic bulbs... so this waited until one burned out before I gave it another good round of research.Finding these on Amazon, I was impressed by very good reviews and relatively low price, especially in the multi-bulb value pack. So I gave these a try. If they worked well, great. If they didn't, price was not huge and Amazon has great return policies.Long story short: WOW! I regret not switching all fluorescents to these much longer ago. Along with the power-sipping benefit, they are brighter and light up (in full) quicker than the old ones. In a dark 2-car garage, I paired them with a motion-sensing switch to auto-on as anyone comes through either door and they light up the whole garage well before one foot hits the garage floor. This is not dull light like the light that comes on in a garage door opener. It is BRIGHT and really lights up the whole garage.Installation was pretty easy but KEY TIP: follow the instructions. While the ends of the bulbs are just like the ends of fluorescents, it's not completely plug & play in every case. If you look at your fixture and it has a ballast (see the image right in the Amazon pictures for this product), that must be removed. There's not much to removing it, but don't get the idea of "let me just try it as is" as that ballast MUST come out for these to work right. Just trying it with the ballast will probably damage the bulb electronics and/or has other risks. So follow the instructions. Or hire an electrician to follow the instructions for you. I was able to do it myself in only a few minutes with only modest knowledge, but ballast removal is something that definitely must be done to make fixtures with ballast work with these modern LED tubes. With that change, they do plug right in and work really well... much BETTER than the old type of bulbs they replaced. They don't get very hot like old bulbs and they don't have any buzz that I can hear. If you want or need to replace tube fluorescents at your place, I'd definitely give these a try.And don't forget to properly dispose of the fluorescents these replace, which is NOT just tossing them in the trash. The home improvement stores will generally take in old ones through recycling or proper disposal programs, or you can do some searches for other disposal options online. For example, in my town, they have a dedicated day every month where a truck collects the kinds of things- like tube bulbs- that should not be tossed in the regular trash pickup.

5000K may be a little too cool for kitchens, but they are bright and energy efficient
In my case, the ballast started to leak oil. Instead of replacing the ballast itself, I decided to remove the ballast altogether and replace the bulbs. The process of replacing the bulb was easy, however it did requires a little bit of knowledge in electrical circuits to make sure that the connections were correctly made after ballast was removed. I didn't need to replace or rewire the tombstones as they were already the right type. These bulbs are bright but look a little too cool for kitchen. I would use 3000-4000K next time, if that will ever become necessary.

Glass tube LED
I had to get a replacement set because the 1st set were all broken due to miss handling by Amazon or UPS. I choose glass over plastic because of the clarity of the glass and it won't yellow over time. I knew the chances of getting it in broken was high just like the other reviewer said. But, hey, all covered under Amazon, so I was prepared and make sure all is good. The packaging was actual very good and rigid but unfortunately not enough protection from impact. The rewiring and installation is easier than I thought. I do think if they should supply a label warning that these are 120v LED Tube with no need for Ballast. As far as durability, it's hard to say because it really coming down to the quality of the driver/circuity of the LED since 99.9% that's how LED lights died. If it last more than 12 months, the chances of it lasting for more than a decade is very high.

No surprises, straightforward conversion
I am not an electrician, but I do have an engineering background. I was able to realize that the schematics use L and N to denote Load and Neutral. It would be good of them to explain that in Layman's terms so that the average homeowner could do it. The wires in the existing fixture were barely long enough to bypass the ballast. It would be nice for the bulb kit to include 4 8-inch jumper wires to ensure that everyone has enough wire to bypass the ballasts. All considered, it was quick and the lights are bright white as hoped. Yay - no more flaky bulbs!!

Simple Installation and brilliant lighting without the harshness
I have installed glass LED tube lights before, which were excellent and long lasting. These that I just bought came well packaged, 4 in a box, and were even more simple to install. Be aware to remove the old ballast completely which is pointed out in the instructions. Both the Hot and Lead contacts are on opposite ends of the tube which different that the earlier LED tube lights that I put in about a year ago. These tube lighting is not stark white, but does have a nice non-harsh light perfect for office and restroom areas. I hope this will keep the electric bills down and easily pay for themselves over time. The real test was to be if anyone complained about the LED compared to the now removed regular tube lights...not a single complaint...so good news indeed. I will buy again.

Hard to ship without damaging the glass
Ordered 2 boxes of these 4' tubes. Each box contains 4 tubes. Any slight bending of the box by the carrier will crack the tubes. I was only able to salvage 4 of the 8 tubes shipped. I ordered different 3' plastic ones as well, and none came damaged. Moral: Better to order plastic tubes that will survive the shipping experience.Note: These will require re-wiring your fixture to bypass the ballast. I knew this and did so. Un-shattered bulbs performing as expected. Just had to be careful not to crack them when installing.

Not quite as easy or bright as advertised.
The instructions were not correct and it took more effort (three trys to get it right) to install than it should. The light is not as bright as hoped and it is not smooth light. The LED lights inside the tube are fairly far apart and it creates tiny shadows. Bought a hanging light from harbor freight you plug in and is bright and cleaner light for only a few dollars more.
