Passion and Purity: Learning to Bring Your Love Life Under Christ's Control

Christian Dating Must Read
Although this book was written in a different era, it's been so helpful to hear Elizabeth Elliot's perspective and her personal story on dating. It's hard for women to navigate our current dating world. Her words are both grounding and affirming. The only thing that I didn't think was entirely applicable to our current age was her black and white perspective on male verses female roles. I generally agree with her, but it's become harder with online dating for women to fully allow men to pursue. I'm curious what she would have said about our current era and what would have changed for her. I would 100% recommend this to anyone wanting a fresh perspective on Christian dating!

I found so much inspiration
Both Elisabeth and Jim were amazing servants of God. What an inspiration it was to read about their love story and how they submitted every part of it to the Lord. 100% recommend. I tend to read books quite slowly but I couldn’t put this one down. I will forever treasure it

Please let your teenagers read this book. I have given this book to so many people. I haven't read a bad book by Elisabeth Elliot. You should read all her books. Wonderful Godly truths. They may sting you but it is good for you to read truth.

Good quality edition
This book was written by one of my favorite authors and teachers who has since passed away. Passion and Purity has taught me a lot about how waiting on the Lord in difficult seasons that just keep going. I have read this book several times through and when I was trying to think of a birthday gift for a friend, this book came to mind. I greatly appreciate the quality of the book and I am excited to give it to my friend to read!

Good, but Room for Improvement
This book needs a new cover.. It makes it appear way more cheesy than it actually is. Although there are some cheesy parts, the gems scattered throughout overpower them, in my opinion.Much of this book is Elisabeth’s reflection/journal of her single life. She spent various seasons of her life as a single woman. She was married 3 times - her first two husbands (the first being missionary Jim Elliot) died before her.As I’ve mentioned before, her relationship with Jim was an absolute roller coaster. During one of their many DTR conversations, he told her he loved her, and she was thrilled. Then, in almost in the same breath, he said he felt called to remain single.Although Jim was clearly a great man of God, she said she would never recommend Jim’s plan of action in a million years. 😳 She almost had a cow when she heard about him kissing other girls, during what he called his “Renaissance.”Through all of her frustrations with Jim, she was reminded again and again of the steadfast love of the Lord. Regardless of what happened with Jim, He should be the object of her deepest longings and affections. These hymns/quotes/reflections were of great comfort and joy to her:“Take my love—my God, I pour. At Thy feet it’s treasure store.”“O Christ, He is the fountain, the deep, sweet well of love...”“Let us ‘undistracted be’ in our following.”“Have I an object, Lord, below, which would divide my heart with Thee?”“O God, our hearts are fixed. Let us not turn.Consume all our affections, let Thy love burn.”“The Lord has brought about growth in me through knowing him, something I cannot regret... already my joy is unspeakable.”“Wherever you are, be all there. Live to the hilt of every situation you believe to be the will of God. Let not our longing slay the appetite for our living.”“I did not want to turn Jim aside from the call of God, to distract his energies, or in any way to stand between him and a thoroughgoing surrender. This is what I understood real love to mean.”

Great Author~ Great Book
I love this author. She is classy and “old- school.”This book is eloquently written. As a born-again believer in Jesus Christ as my Savior, I was very helped as a young person reading this book before I married my husband. I purchased it again as a help for a series on Purity that I was having with our teen girls from our youth group. There was a little bit I was able to share with them. But mostly this book is for a single person who has committed themselves to staying pure and saving themselves for their future spouse.I think this book would be very hard to understand and laughed at- if the reader didn’t have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.Look up these verses in a KJV Bible to find out how to have a relationship with Jesus:(Then buy the book. 😁)Romans 3:23Ephesians 2:8-9John 3:16Romans 10:13This book has really been a blessing to me!

A great book for one to read
The book really focuses on bringing all things under Christ's lordship. Elizabeth Elliot has done a great job in showing through the Scripture and through various life examples on how we are to live unto Him who has saved us from darkness into His marvelous light

Book every single Christian must read
This book is sad and lovely at the same time that talks about the struggles with passion and how God used this couple. I love how she shares her husbands struggles and hers. They were both honest with God and themselves. It is a must read for all Christian singles and dating couples.
