Best swap i purchased to Date!
Had an old style K&N cold air intake in my 2005 Silverado 5.3, it ran fan but was dated, picture of how it looked. Not only did the Volant look better, it performs better than the old K&N one I have pictured. With the truck being able to idle better and has a slight improvement on acceleration, not too much though. I love the look it has looking almost factory and it was simple to install. The fit was perfect and love the tinted cover on it. I did not get it with the tube that runs under the cold air intake but I would assume it would work even better if I did. Best band for my buck.

2002 Avalanche 5.3 - 2WD. Super happy!! You wont regret this intake! At all!
Bought for my 2002 Avalanche 5.2 Vortec. Fit like a glove. I did see where the holes in the bottom of the air-box didn't really line up. Simply match as many as the holes as possible and mark the rest to be filed. 2 of the holes in my air-box needed to be filed. I literally had the holes filed and air-box mounted in 5 minutes. Entire installation took about 30 min. (Im a Tech at Honda). The trickiest part was mounting the MAFS to the air filter adapter with the hex bolts.Over all i`m happy with my purchase. The air filter cone IS MASSIVE!No rubbing issues on the fan shroud - about 1/2 an inch of room.Noticed an immediate tone difference in my exhaust. It`s a`lot deeper. (cherry bomb extreme to 5-inch tips)Cruising around, there's a nice "hisssss" to the intake. When you punch it.......... sounds like Heaven!- I will say that at about 2500-3000 rpms, based on what gear range your in, there`s ALOT of cab noise. It doesn't bother me but I know to most it will be unbearable. Noticed more on the highway way 60-75 MPHAgain - over all i`m happy with the purchase.Noticed better acceleration - deeper exhaust tone - loud intake noise.Cant tell about MPG - I just put the intake on last night, but ill check back in.

Works well- noticed improvements right away
I installed this on a 2005 GMC extended cab Sierra 5.3L Flex, 147000 miles. Stock tune, stock tire, no lift. (Bone stock)First thing I will note, there is a very noticeable increase in throttle noise when you put your foot in it BUT under normal driving conditions there is very little difference (sound wise) It sounds like the old 4 barrel carburetors use to sound, (remember quadrajet?)Second, there is a large increase in throttle response, I actually have to remember to take it easier at take off, I was chirping the tires at take off at turns at first, (never did that before). I also have more getup at lower RPMs then I did before. Don't miss understand my point, there is not a huge increase in power, it's just snappier, it gets moving faster and has more punch, I attribute this to the better air flow not big HP/Torque jump.Third, I did notice an increase in MPG, I am RELIGIOUS about tracking my MPG, I do it in extreme detail because I drive so much and i have been trying to find a way to improve the mileage anywhere I could, I would baby the throttle, I would try all different brands of gas, I would even research the best tires for lower rolling resistance (all helped by the way) I can tell you with certainty that I got a huge increase from where I was at just before I installed it, the only issue is that my air cleaner was dirty so I wasn't getting the best MPG or even the same MPG as when I first installed the air cleaner, with the dirty air cleaner I was getting around 16mpg, I drive both city and highway, on the highway I drive 75 (65 nets much better MPG for me) With a clean stock air cleaner I was getting 18mpg very consistently. On windy days my MPG will go down by 1 or 2 on the highway, I pay that close attention. I should mention that I have an aftermarket device that monitors MPG in real time) It also monitors other things like intake air temp, pressures, fuel consumption, also in real time, etc.I am now getting 19.5mpg and that is with 75+ on the freeway, I am going to tweak things and retest all the things I did in the past to get the best I can, I can say that (knowing my truck) I will be able to get more than 20 MPG in this thing, Im betting I will be at 22ish by mid winter. (Proper air in tires, better gas, less aggressive driving)As far as the product, for the most part everything was good, the instruction were very poor to say the least but if you have any knowledge of this stuff then you will be fine. The parts were mostly okay, the holes on the box didn't line up exactly but were pretty close, with some pushing and pulling you will get everything lined up enough to install the bolts without modifying it.My truck has never been wrecked and the engine compartment is in great shape, there is no rust, there is no grease or grime, I keep it degreased and steam clean it. all my old components came out with hand tools. So the fit issues were a result of poor tolerances in the product. The metal cover is thin metal over a thin plastic with a thin foam back. The flexible adaptor to go from the tube to the MAS is cheap thin rubber. The rest of the parts seemed good however.I will be updating this at some point, I wanted to get something up though since there was only one review for this version on Amazon as of the time of this review.

Excellent Cold Air Intake
Installed this on my 06 Silverado before I totaled it last year. Went ahead and bought another for my 2005 Silverado with the 5.3L and installed it earlier today. Took a drive earlier tonight to test it out and noticed a difference in throttle response right away. Helps the engine breathe a lot better as well. Well worth the money for better engine performance with less air flow restriction and better MPG. Also makes my FlowMaster Super 10’s sound a little more aggressive too which is great. Install was a breeze, very easy. Awesome buy all around. Spend the extra $200 for a solid product that Volant offers here, it’s the best quality CAI on the market for GMT 800’s. Highly recommend!

Pretty cool, but thats it
I wish I could have just bought the plastic tube. That is honestly what makes the biggest difference on the top end with these engines. I had a 50 dollar metal elbow/intake plumbed into the stock airbox for years. It made the acceleration above 3k rpms much more torquey, because you are deleting the factory tube with the dangling muffler portion on (which robs a lot of airflow). This product obviously does the same thing, so I did not notice an increase in performance. The airbox does add some noise though, definitely deeper. I bought it mainly to clean up my engine bay, but I was hoping it would feel different then a tube that was 1/6th the price. It does not. Though, it does look great, and seals way better. I knocked off a star because if you have a stock engine, this is not going to feel that much better then a cheap CAI. Maybe on a modified engine, but this product did not impress me like I hoped it would.

Very Nice
The quality of the intake is very nice. I looks great and seems to be great quality. It doesn’t really whistle like most cold air intakes but it definitely made the engine sound better. Throttle response seemed a little better as well
